Ok, I need to decide which tank to get -they are both on sale at lfs. Tank A is a six foot long, 30" tall, and 24" from front to back of tank. Tank B is a four foot long tank, 27" tall, and 36" from front to back. Yes, that is not a typo, its 36" from front to back. Do any of you have the 48" x 27" x 36" tank? If so, what do you like and dislike about it?

Tank B is $200 more than tank A. I have a duel 400w mh light set up that will work for Tank B, but I would need to get another mh for the six foot long tank. I figure for the 36" wide tank I would need to run T-5's in the front and back of tank -and I have those already.

I want to grow a two large monti caps in the set up -but that will take a few years to get them there. I also plan on growing mostly lps and a few sps. I want to have plenty of open sand for brains, rics, bubble corals, etc. I plan on doing several rock pillars.

Thoughts?

IMO I would go with tank B. The extra width will give you more unique aquascaping options, and allow for more open sand (especially depending on the overflow placement of the tanks). Plus tank B is three inches shorter in height. Considering that you plan to place a lot of corals on the sand, that extra three inches may become a real PITA. The only downside of tank B comes into play when selecting certain fish that might enjoy the added length over the extra width.

Then again, you could always go for the 72x36x27" tank :tongue1:.

I agree tank B is a more interesting size for aquascaping. The 3" more in hight of A is more of a PITA than any real benefit. Of course, it also depends on the siting of the tank. Will it look good sticking that far out from
the wall?

It will be built into the wall. So, the front of the tank will be flush with the wall -well, besides the picture framing that I will put up around it. Also, I will have a 150 gallon stock tank attached to it full of live rock, rdsb, skimmer, etc. There will be plenty of water movement for gas exchange, etc.

I like the dimensions on B as well. However, I would not use the 400 watters on this setup. Overkill for monti caps and lps.

it comes down to preference do you want a 6' tank or a 4' tank then do you want it 2' wide or 3' wide.

Doesnt matter what we want its all about what works best for YOU!

Being the tank is going to be inwall there is 0 chance I would pick a 36'' wide tank over 24''
PLUS I would also want a 6' wall vs 4'

Tank A 100% its a no brainer

I have the 5 ft version (60" x 36" x 27") in-wall. With in walls you want as much front to back depth as possible. The more depth, the better it looks.

Check out my build thread, it is similar to what you want to do.

I'd totally choose tank B If I had that choice. But keep in mind they also make 5ft and 6ft versions of that tank.

What kind of lights do you have and how many? If I went with the four foot version I was going to use two 400w mh and then some t-5 lights in the front and back. If i went with the five foot version, I would need more lights?
