I want to get some live rock for my new 100 long. I noticed Jeff's has 50 lbs for $100, so I thought may be 2 orders of this plus my now dead live rock that has been sitting in the English garden waiting for the sun for about two months, which presumably can be used as base rock. It is originally aquacultured florida limestone, rather dense and now completely white. I'm assuming 2 months in the garden will be enough to kill off the aiptasia spores.

Any other suggestions for live rock? I live in California.

My main concern is staying aiptasia free. Should I quaranteen the rock? I am quite tempted.

I wouldnt use the rockyou put the garden at all unless I soaked it in RO/DI for awhile first.

I kind of like less is more, and if its figi I would just buy 50 lbs. The go to the LFS and select a few nice pieces that will fit in your aquascape well. Like branch rock or flat pieces you may want.

This is great if you have an LFS that carries a nice selection of rock.

I got most of my rock from my LFS and I also ordered some Marshall Island rock from premium aquatics. You can call Premium Aquatics and discuss the exact size you are looking for. Their rock rocks!

No place local or within decent drive distance that sells rock where you are at Subcomandante Marcos?

No, the only decent place is an hour away and their rock is covered with aiptaisia.

I'm half tempted to drive to Los Angeles (8 hours each way).

Well, think about what that will cost in gas/time (but WYSIWYG) vs. getting it shipped to you (relying on recommendations of others).

 so get thee to a good LFS and spend away! Buy a large el cheapo disposible styro cooler, bring a gallon jug of saltwater and old newspapers. Load the rock into the cooler (leave the cooler in your car because those things aren't meant to have x pounds of rock in them and then be lifted-trust me on this one  ). Cover the rock wet newpaper wetted down w/salt water and hit the highway.

There are a ton of people on this board from LA la land, I'm sure someone knows a great place to buy rock there.
