I got home from work around 6 and my crusteaceans are all dead.

DOA list:
Cleaner shimp
all hermits
all pods.
Haven't seen my emrald. I have to assume it's doa.

Neither of the roommates fed the tank (things on their hands ruled out.)
Last thing I did with the tank was to throw a chunk of mysis into the sump to feed the tank. It was last night around 11 or so.

I peeked at the tank this AM and nothign seemed out of whach.

Now I've got a polypad in, I'm running carbon, and I just did a 20 gal water change.

Any ideas?

Didn't you use FWE before? It's possible some may have gotten trapped in a rock and then release itself into the tank. That may have been enough to kill them. The other thing could be that the pumps may have gotten off and you have a lack of oxygen in the tank, shrimps and pods usually go first in the case of lack of oxygen.

everything has been stable. I did a water change last week, 10 gals or so, 1.025@80. The same my tank was.

How could the FWE be trapped in a rock?

No mantis, this tank has been up and running for 6 years.

and all the bodies are still there, so I knwo it's not predation. Also, there is one hermit crab in the 58 and it's still alive. The tank is in the same room so I can rule out aresol poisoning.

I thougt it might be heat, but the ac was on all day.

Some FWE mayn't have been completely dissolved then a fish or crab may have stirred it up. It's also possible that some may have been trap under a rock or absorb by a rock and then release into the tank. Also a crab may have pick at a rock and release some into the tank.

B, I know you say this tank has been up and running for 6 years. However, I thought this was the new tank you just finished. I might be wrong with that scenario, so please correct me if I am.

it's the 20 gallon.
the only thing in the 58 is one hermit, and one snail. Everything else is still in the old tank. I just started a new job so my free time evaporated. I was going to start transferring things over tonight. But I'm going to wait another couple of days and see how this turns out.

Update.

The shrimp is still dead.

Two hermits are alive.

I found my emerald.

His legs are paralyzed.

but he's alive.

His little flicker things (forgive me for not knowing crab anatomy) above his mouth are working. He can kinda move his pincers as well. although I don't think he can use them.

It's odd.

Now what do you think?

Bratt, can it be the temperature?

I lost all my fish in the in-wall system last week, yes all of them and four colonies are dead too. I didn't plug the return pump plug in all the way after I did some algae plucking, the tank temp went up to 87 F when the MH turned on and all the fish were dead in about 5 hours.

i had my temp at 87 few weeks ago and a lot of inverts also died, but then the fishes were all ok. by inverts i mean pods, so i didnt care to much.

Brett are you dosing kalk or some sort spiking PH?
