Too Much Light ?

Is it possible that my two 175 MH Iwasaki are too much for my Whipfin Flasher. He finally came out after two days of hiding. Swimming around , eating, smiling and having fun, then then my MH came on at like 6:00 PM and he was gone for the night? He is the first and only fish in the tank.

My royal gramma does the same thing and it's been almost a year and a half. Only comes out at night and during feeding.
