Hello fellow reefers, I need the help of an expert in the transmission field. My car's tranny clunked out on Thursday and I dont have a trusted mechanic to go to. I had the same kind of problem 8 months ago and replaced it w/ a junk yard tranny. What a mistake......
Counting on our diversed members to help out w/ a trusted repair shop.
Thanks

tranny

what is the problem?

Not sure but it was making a grinding sound just before locking up. My brother in law raised it on a lift a looked. It's not the axel or the clutch cause it will still go into gear but it locked up maybe the differential bearings? last year the same thing happened it wore threw the transmission case. So I bought a yunk yard trans I'm so disappointed.

Grinding before locking up completely. When the flatbed pulled it w/the chain while in neutral it made was hard to pull cause it was locked up and it made more metal on metal cracking sounds.

Well you can try this place....
Victory Auto Spa...
The guys there are straight forward and will give you the best advice.

I don't have the number on me, but if you shoot me a PM I can give you the info tomorrow.

Usually with transmissions if you have problems getting into gear, there could be a number of reasons that happen.

Since you did say it was a manual transmission.... Throw Out Bearing, Arm, Syncros... few things off the top of my head that would lead to failure.
The last time you replaced your transmission did you replace the clutch and throw out bearing? Always a recommended item, as you do not know what the condition of those parts were before you installed.
Also need to keep in mind that if whomever installed everything, did not properly align the clutch, or put the arm in backwards, it could cause failure.

not sure if I understand ( I am a Transmission Builder by trade)
you get a a grinding noise each time you shift fro gear to gear?
what do you mean "lock up"?that is a term used an automatic transmission when the torque convert clutch is applied.
does the car roll when in neutral? when the clutch is applied?

Frank the car wont roll in neutral. The car was in motion then it began to make a metalic grinding sound, I continued and it came to a sudden hard stop by itself. I pressed the clutch and placed it in nuetral but it had seized. When my brother in law came w/ the tow truck it would not roll when pulled by the wench. It made some loud cluncking sounds.
