Has anyone else had trouble with the bubble counter on the Precision Marine Ca reactors getting clogged with media? It has this check valve on it and it has caused me a lot of headaches. Any soloutions?

I'm familiar with the PM design. I don't understand how any media can get into the bubble counter to cause any problems. If the problem is media blocking the effluent line from the bubble counter in the reactor chamber try increasing the pressure at your CO2 tanks. You'll have to re-adjust your feed valve if you do this to get back the same bubbles per min rate though.

If the one way valve on the bubble counter is toast you can just add another in line to solve that problem. I always run two of these anyway since one doesn't seem to last very long. The only one way valve on a reactor that has ever lasted for me is the one on my Knop reactor, five years old and still working.

Todd,

Hey! Cool! A neighbor!!! I think BBreefkeeper was telling me that he just got a M. capricornis from you!

Thanks for the info! It seems that there are "grains of sand" in the bubble counter!!!!! I guess they got sucked up the tube that delivers CO2 down into the reactor. I dont know. I moved the reator around and got any remaing media out of the inlet to the reactor. I blew the rest out with CO2 pressure. It is working fine now. This is the second time I have had this problem thouogh!

Strange that it's doing that. Are you using sand or a larger media size in the reactor? If you are using anything that has a particle size of less than 1/8" I would say you are asking for trouble. Smaller media just plugs up to fast for my taste.

Yes, I'm the one BBreefkeeper got the M. cap from.
