Trying to grow photoplankton

So I successfully split it. Now I'm gonna put the original in 16oz bottles and split the other in 1/3. I'm gonna keep a couple and if anyone wants one and is passing through, hit me up and pick one up. Scott I got one aside for ya.

How much PO4 u got on main tank ? (just curios).

I use to culture, run light (cheap HD,fl 9w) 16-18 hours,f2 fertilizer is full of PO4, that way i ask. Do not over feed (both,Tank and Phytoplankton) . Keep the plastic bottle very clean, i end up to use Flower Vases (glass).I will start again.:wink1:

I've been wanting to do this even bought a big bottle of dt and used 1/3 keep it in the fridge do u think it's still good

I think it would, but its not that much, it depends what u start it in. I used a whole 16oz bottle in a 2 liter.

ok that dont sound bad i just wanna culture it before it finishes so ive been feeding marine snow but wanna start doing just phyto thanks and how many days before you split

You culture has a different green color to it. here is my culture. i also posted these picture on a different thread

I agree with reef reaper, you got an interesting green color. Mine looked more like his. I wonder if it had anything to do with the miracle grow or your starter culture

Arnaldo you're probably better off getting someone's split if you can, I'm sure there's people all over that culture it, just a matter of finding them. I just gave up my cultures or you could have gotten some from me

O.k. so I see a difference in color. Mine looks alittle thinker. But how do we know what's the more healthier culture? Cause obviously we can't see the phytoplankton because there so small. So is me batch no good, or not fully grown or over grown?

So after doing more research. I can't seem to find what's the right color. All I get is it should be dark and when held up to the light u shouldn't see through it. Also thinking that when I start its light green and after a week it's dark, so isn't that good?
