I know this is going to be a sticky subject with members. But I was looking for opinions on the Tunze DOC protein skimmers. I was wondering about their effectiviness in removing scum, noise level and adjusting. I'm on the market for a new skimmer for my soon to be set up 120 FOWLR tank with some coral, not a full blown reef(haha I say that now) and came across the skimmer in a magazine. I like the footprint size and the low power consumption. Here on Long Island we are paying roughly .21 a kilowatt. It adds up very quickly.

thanks in advance. James

There are lots of threads on MR containing members opinions on Tunze DOC skimmers. Several mention their effectiveness, noise levels and adjustability issues.

I have this 9002 NOC and love it. You cant hear it running and it really is pulling some brown gunk out of the water. Works very well IMO - its my first
skimmer so my experience is limited to that.

I have a 9010 on a 72 bowfront and I love it. I just picked up the 9015 collection cup so I can upgrade it when I switch to my 120 reef. It is almost silent in the stand, uses almost no power and is truely a set and forget thing. The only adjustment is the air screw and since I set it originally I haven't touched it. The only difference between the 9010 9015 and 9020 is the collection cup so upgrading is an otion down the road.
