I have 90g with 30g sump
A lot of corals lps sps zoas problem started 6 or 7 weeks ago when nitrate level jumped sps started tissue necrosis not to much but still noticeable the time was exactly when nitrate level jumped rest of the corals are doing good but only sps has problems and I?m sure this is nitrate after level jumped the RTN started I got several test kits they are shoving same level. The system is 3 years old I got it from my friend 2 years ago. I got the suspicious maybe those things im using to lower nitrate level are canceling each other I know 15 ppm is not a big deal but before that a had from 0 to 05 and sps were doing fine.I?m running chemi pure elite three units 5 days nothing changed?

Have you check the SPS for parasites such as AEFW?

Any Temp spikes recently?

Also, what did you change from your normal routine, that may have cause the nitrate spike.

The first thing to do is take a deep breath and tend to the corals that are showing tissue narcosis. If possible, frag them, dip them, and put them on plugs. I personally would slow down, switching too many things in a short period of time in established system is a bad idea.

15 isnt bad, is it perfect no but it could be worse. You may need a better skimmer depending on what you have, asm and euro reef skimmers are pretty good. But there still has to be a reason for the nitrates. Over feeding, are you using ro water for water changes, over stocked tank.... try to lightly python the sand, light enough to stir the sand and get some debris out of it possibly causing nitrates, but not too much or you will suck the sand out.

Really, it sounds like something died and is quietly rotting away somewhere in the tank. Could be a big snail or something in your rockwork.

First off, breathe. Unless organisms are showing problems 15ppm nitrates isn't a reason to freak out. :) The good thing is, it sounds like nitrate-limited algae and bacteria are dragging down your PO4 level. Stop with the huge water changes; just do 10-20% weekly for now. The shock from new SW can be more of a problem than your nitrate level.

First thing, I'd say to check your nitrate test kit, just to make sure that it hasn't gone bad -- have someone else test your water, see what they get. 'Cause if you're testing 15ppm nitrates before a 60% WC and the same after, it sounds like your test kit's expired. Failing that, I'd say check your skimmer, see if it's stopped operating as efficiently for some reason. You might also try dosing iron; that may help boost the rate of your chaeto's growth, so that it'll suck down correspondingly larger amounts of nitrogen.

It might also be time to rinse and trim your chaeto. If you have a really dense chaeto ball, oftentimes the chaeto in the middle is deprived of light and decays away. If the outside of the ball is nice and stringy but the inside falls apart readily, this could be your problem.

Using red line skimmer for 300g it works good. What about anything died no everything is alive and they are doing usually good maybe somewhere in sand bed I had hardness (dead zones) and it opened somehow???? First what I did tested test kits I’m using they are good and new just bought because of the problem. Have to check Chaeto and my sump maybe something is in there
