upgrading the turboflotor multi 1000 help?

question, i have this skimmer with an ocean runner2500 and am looking to upgrade. is it possible to simply get a stronger ocean runner (like the 3500) and hook it up with teh proper hose adapers to the skimmer body? it seems cheaper than to buy a whole new skimmer. am i correct in assuming that all skimmer bodies are similar and the real difference is the pump?
