I shipped a kalk reactor to boston in Dec. The buyer received it the next day but the reactor is damaged and leaking. So we filed a claim with UPS. They took the reactor back from the buyer for inspection. I refunded the money to the buyer. I have been checking on the status of the claim. It has been 3 months and all it says is that they will contact the shipper. It was confusing because at first, I thought I was the shipper and I still didn't hear anything from them for more than a month. It turned out that "the shipper" meant the store where I dropped off my reactor for shipping, ie. the UPS store. I called my UPS store and the guy there said he had to look into it. I had to call them 2 days later and I was told he filled out some forms for the claim. How long is this process supposed to last?

It took me some time when they damaged a calcium reactor on me. I did eventually get my money as I put insurance on the package. I had to keep calling and calling. I eventually sent an email to all of the top dogs and someone finally got back to me. If I can dig up the email and contacts I'll send it to you via PM.

I deal with this all the time, both at my job and from the local UPS store I use. Normally after they take the item (for inspection) they pay out within 1-2 months.

I have had issues were the UPS store was the middle man. UPS will eventually cut the store a check to forward to you. I have never seen them take the item and not pay out. Usually when they are going to not pay out, they will send an inspector to look at the goods and not take anything from you.

Actually, a lot of the time they will only taking the packing material (as proof of packaging) and leave the goods.

Something similar just happened to me with an ORCA skimmer. I ended up eating the money because UPS said there has to be at least 2" around the item in the box, even though I shipped it in the manufacturer's box......

Don't you just love UPS...

UPS is the worst... they won't honor the insurance if you packed the item yourself.. i learned that the hard way... they will take the insurance fee, but they will decline the insurance if the item is damaged and it was not packed by them...

they only take the item that was damaged if the shipper wants it back.
I had an item damaged by them and they asked if i wanted the item back, I explained to them that the item was useless in it condition and that fixing it would not guarantee it would work properly (sump). Lucky for me, I tend to over package items so they paid out two weeks later to me and I refunded the money to the buyer.

just on a side not check with fedex, dhl and other shippers in your area first, they can sometimes be more responsible since they want your business.

Fedex takes much better care of your items. It's a fact. But UPS is more convenient (for me) and cheaper.

Heck, I've shipped a few fiberglass car bumpers just wrapped in bubble wrap via fedex. No problems.

Keep in there. I bet UPS makes it right.... Eventually.
