Any opinions? I have a 155g reef- about 110 gal. after live rock displacement. Will a 36 watt do it? Any other companies you can recommend? Thanks in advance, Dawn.
When I built my new tank I put the turbo twister in the return line. Turns out the tank does much better after I removed it from the system. There are probably lots of beneficial living organisms in the water other than parasites. I am thinking of installing it in my 30 gallon QT tank as I am trying to kill everything excpet the fish there I would recommend no UV for your reef.
Check out this thread that I started regarding UV's in reefs. There is some good information regarding UV's in this thread. Tackett in particular seems to explain what's best, if any, for UV's in a reef.
FWIW, I wound up buying a 36W turbo twist for my 300G. Now I just have to get a pump.
My toughts on UV in a reef, is to use one with low flow in the beginning, while building up the fish populations. Later, I speed the flow up so that the benefical items that corals and clams need won't be killed, but the UV will still help out with algea control. I am getting mine for the fish, hoping it helps me prevent any parasitic infestation while I am stocking the new fish.
Do you quaratine your fish first?? I guess I should use the smaller wattage then, and to turn up the flow to keep some good guys in. I have a squamosa clam in mine that has grown HUGE. i don't want to hurt it. Anyway, I will read your info. Thank you for the link!
