i will be away for four days which usually isnt a problem, but my tank has been running hot this week because of the weather. right now i run two halides and two vho actinics and have to use a lot of fans to keep the tank cool. but the fans causes a lot of evaporation, not a problem when i am around to top off but it will be a problem when i leave for four days. no one can come by to do it for me and besides i dont trust them :)

so what do you think i should do? is it okay to run the tank with just the actinics for about a week? without the halides i think i can remove more then half my fans so evap wont be so crazy. i cant afford a chiller and dont have a place to put it anyhow.

The only thing that gives me pause, is if you have an anemone and you leave the halides off, it might wander in search of better light. But that is the only issue I can think of. I know I have had times when bulbs blew or the ballast malfunctioned and I was without halides for much longer than that.

My main pump went out a while ago and it took forever to get a replacement, I had to leave the halides off because without the trip to the basement sump my tank overheated real quick. The sps turned kinda brown, but they colored right back up.

I think going without halides for 4 days or so is less of a risk than an overheating event would be.
