A murder has happened in the 29g..

A red leg hermit was found dead, sucked out of his shell..

Who could have done this?

Suspects:

Clownfish #1
Clownfish #2
Royal Gamma
Yellow Belly Damsel
Red Leg hermit crabs
Mexican Turbo snails
Haitian Anemone
Button Polyps
Pistol Shrimp, (not seen since tank set up, could have been gone in rocks sold)

Anyone wants to take a guess??

I'd like to know so I can do something bout it.

but the shell is on the sand unocupied... half of its body is in the other side of the tank.

Crustaceans molt. Since they have a hard exoskeleton, they periodically shed this armor and then suck up a whole bunch of water while their new exoskeleton hardens. This is the most traumatic time in their lives and a good number of things can go wrong; not to mention they are very vulnerable to attack.

I would assume he either died in molt, was killed in molt, or was killed by the pistol shrimp or other hermits.
