I feed ocean nutrition formula one flakes. Im looking for something better and equivalent to it. Im placing a big order with drfostersmith.com and wanted to try something better.

It needs to be flakes cause all my fish love it.

Thanks guys

When I got into this hobby 6 yrs ago the owner of one of the LFS told me never to use flake. He told me flake fouls the water more than any other foods. Was this bad advice?

Bulk reef supply has a great video about this Jim. Basically they compare different brand of flake and pellet food, and cheaper or expired flake food, do cloud the water. Pellets either float or sink too quickly. Basically the video compared how fast they sink and how cloudy they food made the water. New era is excellent, i am gonna use them primarily from now on. Foster amd Smith had the best price around.

So I guess it really depends on the quality of the flake food. Maybe New Era wasn't around 6 years ago.

I want to add that when i feed flakes it is mixed with Elos pellets and is dispensed from an auto-feeder.
The fishes chase after the flakes more than the pellets. And I scheduled my return to turn off 2 minutes before the auto feeder. This way the flakes don't all go into the overflow and the sump. I'm guessing this later part is what contributes to others not recommending flakes? Maybe the flakes that escapes into the overflow is whats clouding the water? Or maybe it's just cheap flakes?
