Share your thoughts on what makes YOU a good reef keeper. Don't tell us what you have read or heard, share your own version of way makes you a good reef keeper with what you do on a normal day that make you so good at your hobby. For me it's checking my alk every single day at the same time with same brand of test kits. I watch my tank and corals for at least 5 min making sure nothing is distressed or being harassed. I clean my glass and salt creep then check my sump for anything out of the ordinary like a noisy pump or change in temperature. I also watch every fish at feeding time to make sure every fish is eating. I try never to put my bare hands in the tank and 3 days after my weekly water change I do my tests on every parameter and adjust accordingly. So what do you do that makes you tank perfect?

Duke I'm nowhere close to doing all that you do. However, I only have a 5 gallon tank with zoas, Xenia and GSP. Lol

On a daily basis I look at all corals. I have not tested anything except salt level in about a month and did not do a water change in about 2 months until last weekend when I noticed some zoas were closed. A few hours after the water change the zoas opened.

So for me and such a small tank I simply observe all the inhabitants and usually know right away if something seems off. Call it reef instinct.
