What to do with critters during water change?

I think that 80% water change is a little excessive. I don't see why they'd be bothered by, say a 50% change if it's done relatively slowly.

i would rather do three 30% waterchanges, in say...3 days, then one 80% change.

I see no problem leaving the critters there and doing an 80% water change, assuming you temperature/salinity/pH match your new water with what is in the display.

I also assume that you are able to do this fast enough that nothing dries out.

I would not do one that big. If it were me I would limit to 50%. As long as the swimming critters have enough water to swim they will be fine. The non-mobile will be fine as lond as you do not take too long. Make sure you match temp, SG and ph or you will have issues on a water change that big. I would turn off my lights to make sure you do not cook anything. Be warned you will get lots of sliming.

I've only got a 12 gallon. So it's not a big deal. I was just wondering how you all do it.
