this is a somewhat intresting topic that im sure many will find intresting. it has to do with what we all do prior to handeling fish or sticking ones hands into the tank:

for instance

if i know im going to be sticking my hand into the water i make sure that the day before i do not use soap on my hands and make sure in the shower to avoid puting soap on my arms. this might sound odd but who know maybe it stays in the pores and can leech ou in the water.

well idd be intrested in knowing what all you other guys do.

if i know i have grease or something bad on my hands then i just rinse them off but i cant say i pay too much attention to my hands when i put them in. if something needs to be done inside the tank then i dont even worry about my hands. i dont think its really necessary

Yeah, I've kind of noticed myself not worrying about it too much. Perhaps I dont' worry enough! I will wash my hands - with soap - and rinse them off and then dry them off...and then it's hands in the tank. Aquagloves are kind of a pain because they are very thick and you have no sensitivity to what you're doing in there. I think full-arm surgical gloves (non-powdered!) are best, but I'm having a hard time finding those in the pharmacies near my house.

Have you ever gotten whacked by a mantis?? That sh** hurts like hell. Lucky me it wasnt a slasher
Did it draw blood? I am afraid to put my hand in the tank that holds my mantis.

I always wash my hand down the water before putting it into the tank to remove any soap. Oil will not be a problem in a reef tank, i.e. oil and water don't mix!

i only wash my hands if i've been cleaning. most of the time i just reach right in. of course, i get stung by everything. i don't know what it is in the rocks that sometimes gets me and when i pull my hand out it is dripping blood. it's not bristleworms. the worst offender by far though is my tomato clown. he rips the skin everytime - in 2 places. he has this double bite he's been working on. he has bitten through gloves.

Hmmmmm...I never do anything either..my hand goes straight into the tank...never tried gloves but i did happen the put my finger directly on a bristle worm that was under a rock and lots of those "legs" got stuck in my finger. Didn't hurt but felt funny. I just went to the bathrooms and plucked them out...
