What would cause a return pump to lose it's oomph

I have a Pan World External pump on my return. It seems to have suddenly lost of lot of oomph. The Water just isn't cascading over the overflow like it used to. I'd imagine a slight drop off as a pump gets dirty but this seems quite an extreme drop off. No clattering. Starts up with no effort.

Time for a new pump; a cleanup or something else?

I figured it out. My defenses were not good enough to stop a hermit wedging himself in front of the intake... that cannot have been good for the pump.

Yeah, I tend to use my ears to figure out when the best time to clean the pump intake grill, when the water is just trickling over one of the baffles rather than shooting over them.. time to clean the pump!

You found it. If you get a sudded decrease in flow it is either broken or clogged.
