Okay, just want to hear from the crowd their opinions on the following. Lets assume MH were not invented(dumb I know), and you could only get vho lighting.

It just so happens you have 2 6ft vho's, and 4, 4fters. What color and spectrums and kalvins and george michaels would you use, and more importantly WHY?

I may start buying some new bulbs to expierment with the color appearance of my tank and was looking for some variuos feedback.

I have done a VHO tank before. I used 2 ea actinic and 2 ea actinic white (10kk I think). I likes the color and it was enough light for the mixed reef I had, including a few SPS and a BTA. If I were not to go MH this time I would have done a similar set up with 4 or 6 bulbs. IF you are going to do SPS you are cheaper in the long run to get MH from the get go.

I thought we already discussed this, but here we go again. It's a matter of how blue or white you like the tank. My tank has what Waz describes (The actinic whites, a.k.a. 50/50s, are 12000K though, not 10kk) and I like it but find it just a tad too blue. 2 actinics and 2 whites (10000k) would probably be my top choice. Since you've got 6 bulbs, I'd go 3 actinics (2 four foot, 1 six foot) and 3 whites (or actinic white, whichever look you like). Now, if you like it whiter, go with all actinic white. I've never seen all 10000k, but it might be even crispier white. It's all a matter of what look you like. Play around with the bulbs until you find what you like.

Hope that helps this time.

I would go with 4 - 10K's a 2 Actinics.

I would also look into T5's if the MH was not an option.

the 10K and actinic mix is what was suggested to me.. i like it.. not to glaring white.. not too yellow and not overly blue.. seems like a nice mix to my eyes...
