I was feeding my clownfishes this evening, and a peppermint shrimp pop out of nowhere and went away with the food. Not surprising, but after a second or so, I realize that I brought it at lease 5 yrs ago, if not earlier, and I thought it was long dead. Now I am afraid to move my tank, since who knows what I going to find... there are quit a few critters that "disappeared" all these years.... 8O

Haha that's actually pretty funny. I have a similar story. I bought a species of Goby for my tank. I put it in and I never saw it again. I never saw him come out to eat, I never saw him swim, nothing! Then one day I was feeding the tank and I saw a little blur coming from the back and I went to check it out and there he was. Unfortunately after that I really never saw him again but it's amazing to see how some of the animals can be around for so long without ever being seen.

That is part of the fun. Even more so when you find something you didn't even intentionally add to the tank, like a bristleworm as big as your forearm... "Holy Crap! where did that come from!" :x :P

I have been hearing clicking sound in my tank for more than a decade, and about two weeks ago, I finally see the pistol shrimp. How it managed to stay hidden among the rock all these years? This is a scary hobby.... ;)
