I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be as many decent sized maximas around. I just figured the stores weren't ordering them. I still see a lot of croceas though. What area are you in?

Define decent sized? I've seen 3+ inch Maximas locally, some wicked purple/tear drop colors (and I'm not talking about a deep blue) too that I've never seen before. Granted I haven't really been clam shopping in quite a while, and I do live in the "Spoiled" part of the country when it comes to this stuff. But eh.

I'd consider 3" the low end of decent sized. I've very few that size, most being in the 1-2" category. I just have no desire to buy clams that small. I really don't even understand why clam farms sell them that small when they can grow them a little bigger and get more for them. My gueess would be that these small ones must be mostly the ones culled out.

on the contrary, i went out of my way looking for smaller clams because i didn't want to fork over the "clams" for it. i bought a couple T. crocea for 24.95 a piece. the LFS by me had a bulk shipment of 3 different sized crocea's and the 2 larger sizes are still sitting there....all of the small ones were gone in a couple days.
