IMO i wouldn't drill 2 holes on each end, the glass is really narrow, if you were to go with a 1" bulk head which requires a 1 5/8" -2 1/8" hole, and a 3/4" bulkhead for return which requires a 1 3/8" - 1 1/2". this will make the side glass very brittle.

remember no less than 2" off the top

Hey I just have 1 more question about drilling my 120 you had suggested I not drill sides, I'd be better off drilling the back 48 x 24 x 24. My issue is the tank is in a closet on it's stand with a window cut out, I work on the tank from the back which would expose those bulkheads to abuse. If I drill the sides they are in a much safer place. My question is where is the best place to drill holes on the sides, I know you said go atleast 2" down but how about the distance from front and back glass?
Thanks alot
