$700 for a 70gallon. and thats a steal? whats the normal price of a 70g oceanic tank - $1k+? Ive had AGA tanks for years without any issues at all. I think for the usefulness and the price, normal AGA are better.
thing ive heard about starphire is they scratch like acrylic does - being they have low iron. I dont know about others, but my coraline is out of control. I need to use a razor or a plastic kent scrapper 3 times a week to keep it in check. You wouldnt risk a scratch in a $700 tank, right?
starphire glass is like acrylic as in the clarity, but is much stronger. That is why it is expensive. No Iron and clear strong tank. It is the stuff that they make the red sea max with, why do you think they are so expensive for a nano tank. If It was like acrylic everyone would buy acrylic instead. That tank is a steal to have that glass, stand and to be drilled. How much did the 120 cost you???
Starphire scratches a lot easier than regular glass but not as easy as acrylic. But it does scratch. As for being strong than acrylic, I wouldn't say that at all.
its not the best deal but it isnt bad. there is a guy in jersey that has a brand new 90 gallon tech tank with a very nice homemade stand for 400. now thats a deal
that is below cost for that setup, I'd say that's a deal. As far as plug n' play tanks the tech series is great if you are looking to avoid the cost of a full on custom job but still want some of the bells and whistles. As far as strength goes, I've seen some acrylic tanks I know could stop a small caliber round at the thickness but I wouldn't think about the same on glass tanks the same thickness. But, unless you are keeping your tank in an area where the possibility of high velocity projectiles impacting it is high, than I wouldn't worry too much about which is stronger. The answer is acrylic though.
