I am stocking a 300 semi-reef tank. The fish I have now are too mellow for my tastes. I'm looking for a few fish that are continuous swimmers. I have a few triggers, a tang and rabbit fish, but they divide their time between hanging out in the water column, and hiding in the rock work.

I would love to find a fish or two that are always swimming out in the open, they dont need to be aggressive fish.

Any suggestions?

I have a small tank so I am not familiar with the bigger fish. The sixline wrass is very active and I am sure there are other wrasses as well. Schooling chromis should aso work well as far as being active swimmers.
I like the blue chromis but I read that when they get older the stop schooling.

I love my six-line wrasse. It hides for a bit and then motors around the tank before hiding for a bit again. A couple months after getting it it spends a lot of time out in the open. Plus, it devours those annoying brown flatworms and several other types of small pests.

A couple of false perc clowns paired with a nice GBTA makes for a constantly-visible display.

A small shoal of chromis makes a fantastic -- and relatively cheap! -- display, but god help you if you ever need to catch them. ;)

...I like having lots of small fish, can you tell?
