I bot some pink zoanthids at the swap from Pacific East. For some reason they are not opening and have remained closed since 12/11. My soft (red mushrooms, colt, kenya tree, snake coral) and lps corals(hammer, torch, candy cane, brain) are doing fine. I also have yellow polyps which are only slightly open. Water parameters are good. Any suggestions for the zoanthids & polyps? |

can ya list the params? and is anything bothering them? did you temp acclimate them? are they melting away or decaying? It could be alot of things that are keeping them closed. Is there any type of algae on the body of them?

I have the same problem with some of my zoos. Some open up, flourish and spread while others close up and melt away. Is it a good idea to dip them for any parasites or infections then? |

The params are as follows: Nitrite 0 ammonia 0 ph 8.2 nitrate .40ppm calcium 380 akal 180 I temp acclimated them, then drip acclimate for 25 min, then freshwater dip and iodine dip. There is nothing bothering them as far other coral or fish. They never opened in the tank. They are gray and tiny. I was not able to mount them to any rock, so I put them in a frag stand. There is no algae on them. |

Zoas don't mind nitrates much but your alk level seems on the low side. Salifert kit? Did you double check that reading?
