In the many years that I've been keeping FO tanks, then some mixed reefs and a couple of fowlr tanks, I've run all types and small to medium sized UV units and I would say IMO that I don't actually see a difference with the control of disease.
I've had tanks run with UVs and regular bulb changes and they would still every now and then break out with some ick. I've had tanks that don't run UVs and the percentage is about the same as with the Uv'd tanks.
I still run a UV in my fowlr and no UV in my reefs, both systems have what I called controlled ick
