dreko,

I wouldn't use paint. Wood tends to expand and contract, even moreso in our hobby, which will result in cracking of most types of paint.

Maybe try Wood Stain (Minwax) followed by a good few coats of Polyurethane finish. I had the joy of building our stand with my kids.

There are probably a lot of others that can comment, JHale definitely.

I saw a beautiful tank stand/setup (Kedd's)... I believe he used marine paint.
This paint seems to cure with ambient H2O moisture.
Any thoughts on this over a stain?
I'm looking for a nice white finish

I just had a custom cabinet made that fits into my wrought iron stand like a shadow box complete with doors and side pieces, an unbelievable piece bc i just finished painting it black to match the stand and painted that as well..Looks like a completely knew cabinet....

The stand i used a rustoluem black paint, went on very smooth only one coat needed, and the cabinet inserts i used a coat of primer than 2 coats of an acrylic black paint, kinda a pain in the arsh to do but came out good!!! Will post pics later...

so chris where are the pics?
Dam those Digi Camera batteries lol, ok so here are the updated pics, with the before and after of the painting, and the addition to my new canopy with built in lights :groupflip
I didnt realize how dirty black gets so i had to try and clean it before i took the pic hence the streak marks ah well, and now i just have to paint the canopy to match ....
