So HAPPY!!!!!!!!

Yesterday my wonderful hubby bought me two beautiful baby naked clownfish. I was thrilled with my oh so cute new babies, and full of excitement. I honestly felt like a little kid.

Unfortunately all that excitement turned in to the worse case of depression I had ever endured.
I very stupidly came home, and without giving it a thought I put the babies in my dt. My ocellaris clownfish did cross my mind, but since he is small, and my dt is a 6' 155 gallon tank I figured they would stay at opposite ends of the tank.
Problem was I totally did not give the 2.5 - 3" Niger or the 1" 4 line wrasse a second thought, and that is where the danger was.
The worse that could have happened, did in fact happen. The babies were first chased by the Royal Gramma briefly, then the Niger began chasing them followed by the 4 line. I immediately tried in vane to get them. Then I turned to the Niger with no success either.
Shortly there after my BIGGEST NIGHTMARE happened. I witnessed the Niger with one of the babies in it's jaws. I immediately got him to release the baby.
Oh the horror; the poor little baby had a severe bite on it's side. I put the little guy in a "hermit crab" carrying tank. Unfortunately it was way to late, the little guy's intestine was sticking out of the gash on it's side. I tried comforting myself by telling myself that at least I didn't let it die in the Niger's jaws. Within the next 10 min. the little guy passed away. I sat there crying, and beating myself up for such a stupid mistake that caused these little guys their life. I felt/feel like the MOST HORRID fish mom in the world.

Of course I kept looking for the other one with no luck. I had just given up all hope for the other one, when just about an hour ago, or so: OUT came the other one. Of course the 4 line & the Niger went on the chase the minute they saw it, and in to the rocks the baby went. I was ecstatic to see it of course, but once again started fretting for it's safety. Well, it came back out, and I was able to catch it. It is now in the "Hermit Crab" carrier floating in the dt while I get my 20 gallon cleaned up! That is where it will live until it grows much larger.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy for my surviving Baby Naked Clownfish!!!!!!

Thank you for my little guy Wingo & hubby!!!!!

Sorry for the horrible pic. That was the best I could get from this little wiggly fish.

Thank you Exotic Reef!
LOL, what looks big? The clown? Trust me it is tiny little baby, it is 1" tip of it's mouth to the tip of it's tail, and ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh soooooooo cute.

I have a stupid question: I've had some rubble rock sitting in bucket since the tank switch without circulation , or heat some is in water but for the most part they've been out of water to. Will it be a bad move to put that rock in the 20 gallon that I am putting the little guy?

Good to hear one survived.

When the survior grows bigger, you should still put it in the carrier first and dip the whole carrier in the tank for one to two days so that they see each other and prepare for each other.you can put couple rubble in the carrier to let in sink to bottom provided that it can be reached though.

1" clownfish is not tiny and viable enough(too bad, the fish are my own bred, I usually sell my own bred when they are 1.25"+) in most tank environment but the problem is they that are tank bred and never live with aggressive fish before nor a fish with BIG teeth. So they need to first learn that the Niger is dangerous before they will dash away. If the niger decided to, it can kill another fish of same size easily when the other fish do not know that they mean harm.

Do you have any rubble from the sump/fuge? Use those that are for sure live.

Thank you Wingo! I should have known that although the Niger has been a model citizen, the babies were to great a temptation.;( Thank fully I didn't get both of the babies killed.

No I don't have any rubble left in the sump. That's the rubble that's in the bucket for about 3 weeks. I did take 2 really small rocks that were in the tank, and put them in the 20 gallon. Better then nothing. I also put a tiny bit of chaeto in the 20, and I will monitor the parameters.

wow, that's tough, but it's great news one survived. what you did to prevent a second accident says more about you than the fact that the first one happened.keep up the good work!
