There have been a lot of questions regarding using an epoxy putty that was not made specifically for the marine hobby. I needed to glue some branches together and the local LFS did not have any putty. I went online to see which were graded as potable and found one from JB Weld called Waterweld. I got a 2 ounce stick and used it to reinforce some branches and to glue some to a shell and to make it into one colony. Did it for a hammer and a candycane.
I put the coral in a bowl. Mixed the putty and glued the pieces together and let them sit in the bowl for an hour which is the amount of time it needs to harden. (it takes 24 hours to completely cure). I put the corals back in the tank and see no complaints from either the corals or fish. I did this Friday so it looks to be safe to me. I did not find their Marine weld which may have been a better choice. But I am not sure if that is listed as potable safe.

This allowed me to do it all with the corals in the water and also eliminated the major chemical reaction from being in the tank.
