Hey guys anyone ever tried putting one of those grocery store clams in your sumps? I have been thinking about it for extra filtration. Think there will be any negative effects?

I have had 5 in for about 2 months, then I needed more room & left only 1 in there. He has been in there since Feb & seems to be no ill effects.

They will probably not last, since they prefer colder waters, but for their sake it's better than putting them in spaghetti.

the only bad thing is what if they start to die and pollute the tank? the clams from the beaches around here arent going to like the tropical temp.

Scotty right once they start to die they're really going to pollute your tank, so you need to watch them very closely to make sure that they're alive. In the summer time, when the temp raise, they're really going to be stressed out.

In a reef tank any major die off like that will sent your nitrates up which will be a problem for your corals.

I have this kind

When I had my 55g I had a bad cyano problem & it was the reason why I added the clams. I was doing water changes at the time as well & the cyano issue reversed itself.
