Anyone know of any reef safe crabs that don't get too big and become bulldozers? Also reef safe. I had to get rid of my Emerald Crab last weekend. It was constantly knocking down rocks and frags even the ones glued down. I was looking into Porcelain crabs or Acro crabs. Any thoughts?

I got an arrow crab when it was pretty small. Now the darn thing is about the size of my hand when open. Same problem, knocking down frags and rocks and constantly stealing my rbta's food.

i read arrow crabs are not reef safe. most crabs are iffy on the whole reef safe thing since they are scavengers and won't resist a good opportunity to feed if something is weakening or dying.

Porcelain crabs.
They filter feed from the water column but can also use its claws. They are extremely clumsy so they would not pose any threat.
I have one in my fuge and it is really cool to watch.

I have heard many people dont trust emerald crabs. And there is another non-reef safe crab that looks like an emerald crab. From what I have read the reef safe ones have red within their joints.
I have had them but its piece of mind not to. JMO

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm leaning towards the porcelains. I dunno maybe I should skip the crabs all together but they are so cool to watch.

I have two Emerald crabs and have never had a problem. Is it possible its just the one you had

Never had a problem with it eating anything it shouldn't just that it got too big so fast and it was bulldozing my aquascape. Even frags that were glued down. Wish I had room for a fuge.

I had one as a hitchhiker on my last tank barrie- looked a lot like an emerald but had black tips on its claws. I forgot the name of it. But he remembers the name- Amercian Standard lol.

I definitely dont trust any crabs, I have had a couple hitchhikers and one that I removed from a crevice in pieces with a pair of feeding tongs.
I used to have hermits all over and a few emerald crabs.
I got rid of all of them and have snails instead simply for piece of mind.

But I did save one scarlet hermit and I have a porcelain crab.
