Macroalgae needed?

Is macroalgae needed for a FOWLR? if so what is an easy one to use. I guess it will be good for the herbivores as well. I just don't want it to clog my tank, take over teh tank or make a mess out of it. I usually feed my herbivores romaine and spinach since the seaweed makes a mess in the tank.

unless the algae is physically separated from the tangs, once they get a taste for it, they will eat every last leaf.
