Why don't we...?

Just a quick thought, why dont we mix water from other peoples tanks with our own tanks? I personally don't because I was told not to, but I never understood why.

Wouldn't it be beneficial in a sense because you'd be adding different types of bacteria to the system?

Because you never know what is lurking in someone else's tank..red bugs, flatworms..the same reasons we should be dipping any corals before putting them in our tanks.
As far as LFS's are concerned, many use copper in their systems and you certainly don't want any of that water going into your tank!

I see your thinking in regard to adding different strains of bacteria, but you never know what you will end up with, could be good, could be bad, why chance it?
