octipus

was just t at the aquarium store in manhattan on 3rd ave and 36st and they had a octipus living in a tank with fishmy first question was dont it eat all the fish he said no. he has been feeding it frozen food. was wondering think i can put the octipus in my tank and he wont eat my fish. always wanted a octipus.

If it is your first time keeping an Octopus I would not put it in your tank with other fish. It can kill and eat your fish. An Octopus needs to be fed quite often because of their high metabolism. If you are unable to feed the Octo 2-3 fiddler crabs (or a similar crab) per day it will look to fulfill its hunger other ways. That's where your fish and inverts come in

It is extremely challenging, time consuming and expensive to mix an octopus with fish. Even if you can feed the Octo what it requires there is still risk. I mixed an Octo with fish for 9 months and she killed my Convict Tang and a couple of Pajama Cardinals. She was being fed at least 2-3 fiddler crabs and/or Asian Shore Crabs a day among some other foods and she still took some fish down.

Other considerations:

Type of fish in the aquarium already
Aquascaping (i.e. hiding caves for the Octo)
Your system

Remember you don't only have to worry about the Octo eating your fish. The fish can eat your Octo too!

If your Octo get's spooked by your fish or something else and it inks, there is potential for your Octo to die from suffocation. Octo's can suffocate from their own ink in a closed system such as our aquariums unless you have really good filtration.

There are many other considerations but to keep to your question I'll avoid going into more detail. I wouldn't put an octo with other fish unless you have extensive experience keeping Octos. Even then there is still risk involved.

looks like i have to set up a tank just for the octipus.. better start doing research for the care of octipus. thanx for the info appericate alot.
