Grrr....Argh!!!!

Okay, so here's the timeline. I acclimated my two new True Percs and put them into the tank just as it was about time to sleep. The Yellow Tang circled around pretty much all night, never going to sleep. The only other thing walking around was a Pep Shrimp (I shined a flashlight on him just to make sure it was a Pep). I know and did this because I don't sleep well and wake up every few hours (especially on Thursdays, don't know why) and, naturally, go to look at my tank. The Clowns were sleeping all through the night, separately. One in the middle of the tank, one on the crowded side of the tank where all but one other fish make their home. Last time I saw all this was about 3am. Actinics go on at 4, and by 4:50 when I came to look one Clown was on the crowded side hiding behind a little rock I have on the sand...and the other Clown was MIA! At 6am when I really got up to get ready for work I saw neither Clown and almost had anervous breakdown. A few minutes later I saw a Clown hiding all the way in the back corner behind rocks; he's started to come out a little bit. But it's still just one Clown. I have no idea if the second one is also hiding somewhere or... Now, I reject an idea of a Mantis for two reasons. 1) I took out all my rocks at one point and found nothing. 2) In the collective hours I've spent looking at my tank at night over the last two months I would have seen and heard him. I can't believe that I have the world's quietest and stealthiest Mantis in there. This brings the questions: am I freaking out too early assuming something awful has happened? Could the other Clown be hiding somewhere in there? Could a Skunk shrimp have eaten a small Clown in less than 2 hours? I'm just so frustrated and confused! I'm almost ready to give up and get rid of the whole damned tank and get a cat instead! :sigh1:

6:50am.

So, I just fed the tank with some zooplankton soaked in vitamins. Everybody ate, but only one Clown. The other really weird thing that just happened is that I saw the Yellow Watchman Goby I bought almost two weeks ago and hadn't seen since day 2! I figured he was dead and MIA, but he poked his head out just now and grabbed a piece of zooplankton.

that's probably what most of the fish you've been missing are doing.also check to make sure they haven't jumped out behind the stand or something.

do you have a hang on back overflow??if so, could they have found their way into there or the sump??

For some reason, I always had problems keeping clowns.
I've had Powder blues, Hippos, etc. (harder to keep fish) with no problem.
I went through about 5 false percs that all looked healthy, but wouldn't last past 2 weeks.....
Don't know..

Last month, I saw a true perc @ FT & decided to take another chance.
So far she's 100% with a great appetite.
I want another one.....but am a little leary.

Don't know what's up with clowns...
Good luck.
Keep us posted.

The True Percs at NWA look good. I know Kris got one also from there. Hopefully he's just hiding and will come out eventually!

I've looked for a Mantis and found nothing! And there were no disappearances (since I found the Goby) for weeks - until the first night of the Clowns. The other one is now all swimming around. I got 2 anemonies at the moment - mine split. He's looked at them, but so far hasn't approached them.

Hopefully the other one hiding...but I'm never an optimist.
