I am just about to go online and buy a couple of pumps for my new tank but thought i'd just get some opinions before hand.
My original plan was to buy an ocean runner 3500 for my return pump and a 2500 to run my skimmer. My concern is that these two pumps in the sump may heat the water up too much, so then i started to wonder if i should go for an external pump for the return. I dont have any idea about external pumps as i have always used submersibles. can anyone suggest an external pump? its very important that it doesnt make too much noise as its in my living room and i dont want to pay over $100 for it (the ocean runner is like $65) OR am i just being rediculous and heat wont be a problem with these two pumps?
Its for a 36 gal bowfront with a 20gal sump
Help me
Aaron

Aaron my external pumps heat up the water a lot! Not sure if switching to externals will help with the heat but I think it makes for more sump space and an easier maintence. I like the pan world pumps but I don't think you'll find one for less than 100 bux

Is This True Guys??

I never used the brand he is talking about. A Velocity T4 will heat a 90 gallon tank to +3 deg, I had two of those for a while, they are now marketed as Poseidon PS4. I also use\used ampmaster, Iwakis, Gen-X(mak-4) and Sequence, didn't notice any increase in system temperature.

Aaron I use the Quiet One pumps for the return on my sump and they do make some noise but I haven't seen any increase in heat from using them. I think the better pump is the eheim as I've been using one for many years and it's very quite and doesn't put any heat into the tank.

internal pumps will heat the water somewhat, they are water cooled.

if an external pump is heating the water it is also probably water cooled, ie. no fan.
this is the trade off for a silent pump. my blueline has a fan, but does not add any heat that I know of.

I use to run my Eheim hobby pump as external, now I run it in the sump, and it was quite and I had no problems with heat in the tank. Actually I was running a Little Giant pump, external, before I switch over to the eheim and I noticed a drop in overall temp in the tank.

I think all the ehiem pumps are the hose conectors.

look on savko.com , they might have an adaptor to go from hose to threaded.
