i dont no if you have tried this but try doing several water changes. like one or 2 everyday one morning one nite. or if you dont want to stress the life in the tank then just do one a day for a week straight then check your nitrates. also how much live rock do you have in your tank. Do you have a skimmer and what kind do you have. lets have the details of the tank

size of tank
live sand, reg. sand, BB
filtration (live rock, cannister filter, HOB filter, Skimmer)
Water movement (powerheads)
water quality (ph, salinity, ammonia, nitrites, we already no nitrates).
# of occupants in the tank & wat are they.

let us no what you have from the up above criteria so we can help you better. you might not even need that device you listed.

and deepwater is dead on the money the bioballs will cause more nitrates so u dont want that.

You'll hear many different opinions about these things, IMO they shouldn't be used. If your nitrates are up then your system design is flawed and we need to get to the source. Your filtration can't keep up with bioload and some changes must be made for long-term success.

List all details as Tony already said.

yeah its time for an overhaul!!

i am going to change this thing around to make it more reef friendly with the help of spykes. i think the system is flawed. i have an eco system with bio- balls in it and a lot of collerpa that is growing out of wack. also i have a sand bed in the tank 1 1/2" and mud in my refugium sump. i am going to take it out and get a new skimmer.

all you really need is a good skimmer. no bioballs and mircale mud etc.. caulpra.

i used to have nitrate reductor way bay when i have 29 gallon. that thing doesnt solve my problem. after time i learn that big huge skimmer help reduce my nitrate and keeping my water quality in good shape. i see u have canister filter for u tank, that also adding your nitrate problem. if i were u i will purchace a big skimmer, like aqua c, my reef creation, or mtc. my tank is 58 gallon tank and my skimmer design for 250 gallon, and thats the only filteration that i have for my tank. and my nitrate almost 0.
