Is it possible to have to much filtration in a tank?
And if so would this delay the the process of having the tank water become more stable?

An example
My tank 65g in my overflow i have a piece of poly pad to shut the water noise up
Sump-poly pad and carbon..
All this plus skimming ....

Too much skimming

Chris5,

There are those that feel you can over filter a tank. Especially with the protein skimmers that are available these days. Their main concern is the plankton (and maybe dissolved organics) that naturally occur with time will be filtered out and the organisms that make peripheral use of these resources are deprived. Most of the time this will occur without our knowledge.

I personally think that overskimming/filtering is okay and definitely better than underdoing it. But if I ever had anything that I thought might really need the nutrients I might rethink that (specialized filter feeders, etc).

Of course this is based on research as opposed to personal experimentation. LOL!
