Need "advice" on power cord for MH ballast~

I will be running a power cord from my socket to an IceCap ballast.
Is there a certain gauge wire I should be using. Wouldn't want a fire!
I have this laying around.....can it be used if the ends are cut?

as long as the wire gauge is rated for the amount of volts the ice cap requires you should be fine

the leads from IC MH ballasts are 18 AWG, that cord in the picture looks like it is 16 AWG x 3 conductor (specs should be printed on the cable itself) and should be sufficient IMO.
