when I built my hood for my 58, I made it fairly large. The bulb as I originally designed was about 16" above the water. I felt that was too far looking at others tanks. So I built a small openended box and mounted inside the hood and then mounted the light to the box. (its now about 9" from surface)

I now have a "shelf" inside the hood. I was wondering if you all thought it would get too hot for me to place my Wavemaster Pro inside on this shelf? I will have two fans, one pushing, one pulling on each end and can always add one to the top to pull upward for any stagnent air inside.

Here is an example:

This is the hood w/o door. You can see the light mounted in the original position:

The way you constructed your hood with the fans you should be ok. But considdering that you have so much space to play with you can try to mount an additional spacer block to create a bit of distance.

With the spacer the light may get in your way when you are servicing the aquarium. I have seen people mount the lights on rails that they took out of old drawers. I really like that idea because you really have control over which area you want the light. The wire for this they used the coiled variety looking like a tel cord.

I like the ideas... I will see what I can come up with. Minimum I will add some space between the reflector and the box.

The idea of the sliders is nice. I want to have a larger formation to one side, so that might be really usefull.

Thanks

with fans is the hood the heat won't be an issue, evaporation might be. your going to expose electronic equipment to some bad conditions, humidity, and salt water.
