Folks,
I have been struggling will all that has happened and have a very close college friend who is Sri Lankan (someone from this board is also from one of the islands devastated by the event). Thankfully enough, my friend's family(including his wife who is studying law overseas) were not directly affected or hurt. For that I am thankful. I understand that many other countries were affected, but I want to make an impact where I know it will work. In times like these where nature plays it cruelest joke on mankind, we search for ways to help. I wanted to donate some money and have been struggling with where to do so. Since the larger organizations appear to have loads of red tape connected to them - I haven't donated yet.
I called my friend in Staten Island and heard that one of his close friends from his temple is starting a relief drive that has Federal Express involved donating planes etc to helping get materials and products directly to the people of Sri Lanka. Since then, he has put up a relief drive web site via his temple in Staten Island and that is where I will donate my money in the interest in making a difference.
I will be donating my money as a friend of Dinesh Ulpange, I hope you will take a moment to do so as well. The site is www.aidlanka.org
Again, I apologize if this note is offensive to you and hope it finds you well going into the new year.
