preadatory snail?

Hangin out tonight and did a good checkout of my tank, I notice that a lot of snails seem to be dying.. at least their shells are winding up empty on the sandbed.
hmmm... whatsup?

I then notice this little black bodied and black shelled critter cruising around the glass. hes about an inch in length, and has a probiscus (sp?) sweeping around. not like a conchs mouth does, this is more like a blindmans walking stick kind of movement. I get the feeling its not a nice snail and has been snacking on my janitors!!

ill try to take a picture when I see it again. any knowledge?

snail death is normal, its more likely that your hermits are munching on them. I have about 200 shells on the botom of my tank. get used to it.
the snail sounds like a nassarius. good cleaner.
