Hi, I am about to get some fish for my 15 gal tank and was wondering if you guys could suggest any fish that would be happy in a smaller space? (18X18x24")
I was thinking of some percular clowns, maybe a gobie but i'm not sure what type. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Cheers, Aaron

a pair of clowns would be fun. they have a lot of personality.
Try to get Tank Raised clowns as they will likely be hardier. I also prefer the false percular clowns over the true perculas.
a shrimp goby with a pistol shrimp would also be fun to watch as they form a symbiotic relationship together with the shrimp digging in the sand while the goby acts as the lookout.

If you go with clowns - stay away from the maroons and tomatoes. They get very agressive especially when hosting - you would never be able to put your hand in the tank! Tommy my tomato bites so hard he takes chunks out of Eric's hand and our maroon pulls the hairs on his arm - LOL!

I definetly agree with MISSY, don't get maroon clown, they are moron!!! They will attack you when you put your hand in the tank. Maroon Clown = Moron Clown  And he loves to chase after my other little fishy, and they end up with ripped fins.

Yes definately stay away from the Maroon that guy is MEAN! He doesnt just bite he bites continuously and figured out that biting my hair and pulling on it hurt more then when he just bit me so now he does that :(

The tomatoe is really big so he actually makes me bleed when he bites me sometimes.

Go get yourself some percula's they are nice. If you get a goby make sure you have some nice sand for him to sift in.

Skunk clows are nice so are percula and saddle backs

How about a nice fairy wrasse, neon goby, flasher wrasse, purple fire fish, prawn goby, pygmy angel or a pseudochromis

just a bunch of suggestions

I agree with purple fire fish.

I have 12G nano, I am planning to put 2 purple fire fish and maybe one pygmy angel.

Is this too crowed for 12G? anyone? Thank you in advance.

Here's a 12g nano-cube that is about 10 months old. It has a small maroon clownfish, a yellow watchman goby and a cherub pygmy angelfish. There is also one cleaner and one blood shrimp plus a bunch of snails and hermits.

Ok thanks for the list, my next question is:
Where would you suggest I buy them? I am sick of fishing out dead fish from the tank that i bought the day before.
I just flushed a new sixline wrasse i bought last night at petco (i know petco is known as a bad place to buy fish but where is a good place?) The only fish stores i have been to that even look like thay have any idea what they are doing are completely focused on SPS corals and have very little in the way of fish at rediculous prices. Where do you guys get your fish?

Aaron,

I agree with Most suggestions - I have a 7 gallon at work with a watchman and a fire red pistol shrimp - they are living in harmony - one keep watch while the other keeps clean -

Prior to this I had 2 sabae clowns - they mated until the blackout where they perished :-(

Also, what about this fish http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=161 very small and colorful.

Anyhow, good luck with it and remember - don't put fishin until you can stablizie our water parameters.

pecan, i know u have jbj 12 gallon nano cube with 2 24 watt pc. what is the temperature during summer?
i know the jbj has dual fan that will cool off the tank, is it enough?
i am thingking to drill the tank ( if possible) to install ice probe in the back.

I dont think its an issue of water quality, I run a 10gal hospital/ quarantine tank which is part of the loop for my large tank (2 year old 80gal) which i test regularly.
When i have new fish to quarantine I disconnect it and run with a seasoned canister filter. I acclimate by floating the bags until the temperature is equalized the slowly add some aquarium water to the bags over a couple of hours until the store water is diluted to about 50% then i throw out the evil petco water and put them in the tank.
Also justin you'd be surprised how noisy tanks are when everything is quiet, a nano in your bedroom might drive you nuts
just my 2 cents, Aaron
