this seem to be the hardest damn thing to find. I heard great things about it, but they just arent many available. anyone use one? or know where to get one? im trying to go natural and simple with my aquarium, and this seems like one of the better alternatives.

your best bet is to make one yourself.

just take a small tank (5.5g~10g) and line it up with tank dividers. instead of lining them up 100% vertically, a slight angle is good. you can then either light the tank from the sides or from the top.

the difficulty i've had is promoting turf algae instead of cyano or some other nuisance algae to dominate. i suspect part of the issue is the amount of flow, so that the situation favors a tougher 'rooting' algae like turf.

i've gone away from such setups tho as i found the technique to be too much work versus a passive refugium setup. once the turf/algae in the fuge grows to a certain degree, i just rip it out.

cultivating it in rows or cartridges just seemed like more 'work' than reach and weed out. it might be more quantifiable but i'm a generally lazy guy. hth
