Fast,
Do these have a base thats the same color as the polyps themselves? If they do they're anthelia and from what I've seen can retract but can't close completely.

Cloves on the other hand I think have a more "mat" like base, and the polyps can retract all the way like GSP.

I got these in a trade a while back & was told they were clove polyps. Do they look like Anthelia though?

How can you tell the differnce between the two?

This one has a bulge at the base & sometimes at night the arms retract within this bulge.

Zoran,

From my experience, anthelia start out looking like clove polyps when small, but as they mature they look more like anthelias.

They look like anthelias to me for sure.
Ditto on the retraction at nite.

With the clove polyp the top of each polyp opens in a star shape. The polyp tops are feathery and closely resemble those of Anthelia

Clove Polyps retract into firm, elongated "buds" that are attached to a solid surface. These "buds" help to easily distinguish these corals from Anthelia sp. corals.

The base has the same colors & when they retract it's completely in. You cannot see any of the tentacles arms & it's gone. Looks like a bud at that point.
