actually from what the CSR told me, when i first activated the phone there is a unique chip inside that is activated only for my account. if anyone tries to activate it it will be flagged as lost/stolen. plus i had a passcode to get into the phone. unfortunately not a lot of people know that the phone gets "bricked" when it's tampered with.

It's just easier for AT&T to kill your phone. For the work it would take to track, find, prosecute, ect, it's cheaper just to write it off. B

Sounds like a good ending to a lousy beginning. Glad it's working out for you. Could have been much worse and a bigger headache. Looks like you'll be 'whole' very soon.

Use the money Amex that gives you and get the Voyager instead. Better phone, better service and insurable. AT&T/Cingular/AT&T doesn't allow you to insure their expensive phones.

I understand that police are busy; but can't they do a sweep once a month for stolen phones? Make some publicity out of it?
