Koi

I know there are some freshwater junkies on this board as well.
A friend of mine is looking to get some Koi in the NYC area, any suggestions on stores to visit?

There's two stores on Mott St just north of Canal that sell freshwater fish only. I have been to both, and there is quite a selection of koi.

I can't remember the store names, but I know they're both on Mott. Just head to Mott and Canal, and walk up.

Does he have a pond? If so, I have a bunch of young Koi in my pond that I'd like to re-home. They are from the spawn of summer 2006 and are about 6" now.

Aren't you in the Bronx? Why not visit Zoorama on East Tremont. He has all those Koi type fish and others...

They aren't any of the ones with the super fancy names. They are your standard Koi as opposed to comets or shebunkins, and no long fin variety either.
Mostly white with orange/red/gold and I have a number of black ones. If I can, I'll try and take some really rotten pics for you.
Any idea how many he may want or how big the pond is?
They are all nice & fat & healthy & free

thanks kathy.

i asked my friend. he has a pond in the back of his yard, but he's unsure of the dimensions. all he knows is that the pond freezes over in the winter since it's only 2' feet, so the kois would stay in a in-house tank this winter, and will be placed in the pond after he makes it deeper.
