I've been running Vista now for a # of months, the big different is that it has much more security. Every time you go to run or install a program, download or delete something you get a # of prompts asking if you want to do this. It's a little annoying but it's just more security. It also take some time to find things, as they're in different places. Outside of that after a while you'll get use to it and you wouldn't notice the difference. I use XP at work and Vista at home and it's not that big of a deal. |

From all of the reviews I have read aside from what Mike said they also say it is a memory hog.

Reefer Ratings: (0) Friends: (0) | On an XP machine i can usually troubleshoot something, click by click, screen by screen from memory. But Vista is much more confusing. I am running a Toshiba Laptop 2 gigs of ram. Runs pretty fast actually. No problem with memory, unless I have my larger apps open. But for basic computing use (email, internet, word processing) there is no problem with it. I am also running Office 2007, it is much different than the 2003 version. So if you are not into change then stay with 2003..

I run Office 2007 at work and at Home, it's a real pain in the ass as you need to know where everything is. Also if you send people files, that are saved in Office 2007, most of the time people can't open them, as they haven't upgraded to Office 2007. So I have to save files in two difference versions. |

I have been running vista for the past few months. There are a lot more "security" features on it but there are also a lot of bugs. I have even experienced issues where applications I was running smoothly in XP can't even load in Vista. This is a clear example of Microsoft releasing their software before it is fully ready. I don't anticipate Vista to be worth having (if you can avoid it) until at least the release of Service pack 1. Thats just my 2 cents. |

i had tried it for a couple of days, don't like it at all. even put in 2gb RAM and it still took like a day trying to open up explorer and going from drive to drive where in xp it's instant. so switched back to xp |

Vista is a momory hog when installing software you will need to make sure it runs on vista if not check for patches. If anyone has any issue with Vista and would like to roll back to xp hit me up. Also can up grade you to vista if you would like. |

Vista will require a little time to develop familiarity with. Like with office 2007, all the items are there, but just moved around. When it first came out, the the OS was such a pain. Many of my old softwares were incompatible, i.e. Nero. However, these issues have been resolved with updates. I have them on 4 diff comps at home for a while. I can say that at its present state, it's an okay os, worry free for basic operations, and now increasingly compatible with a majority of software. It is pretty darn fast on my dual and quad processors. Do note that it is a memory hog. IMO, I would recommend at least 2gigs of ram. |
