My First Book - Finally Published!

In addition to a 120 reef tank I also keep a 150g Loach tank. I've been a fan of Loaches for a long time and have cared for many species over the years.

I frequent another online community called Loaches Online. Back in 2004 I and a handful of my online pals there were dismayed at the lack of information on Loaches despite being a popular freshwater aquarium fish. We decided to change that.

One of the guys in the group is an editor and has worked for several years in the book publishing industry. He wrangled a handful of us together and we wrote Loaches: Natural History and Aquarium Care. After nearly four years it has finally been published (by TFH) and is available at Amazon.com and other major book stores.

Though I'm a journalist by trade, this is my first book and I wanted to share it with my fellow aquarists.....even if it is about freshwater fish.

Thanks guys!

Yes, if you use the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon they show the abbreviated credit's on the back flap. There are more extensive bios on pages within the book and all the authors are credited on the inside title page.

I wrote the chapter on Cobitidae loaches (chapter 8) and have other contributions sprinkled throughout the book. It's been a very rewarding project. All the authors hope this book wil lead to better captive care of these great fish and efforts toward their conservation. All proceeds from the sale of the manuscript were donated to the World Wild Life Fund's Living Mekong initiative to help conserve Loach habitat.

They definitely do! Botias, and in particular Clowns, are very smart. Whenever I tell people I have smart fish with tons of personality they look at me kinda funny.

Non-fish people just don't get it.
